The future is bright for the Riverside Rapids basketball program after the junior girls' squad won the B.C. championships last weekend.

Riverside, which is coached by Kelli Langford, senior girls' coach Paul Langford's daughter, finished first in the 2014 standings and boasted some of the top players in the league.

Marty Chambers was given most valuable player honours, while Alex Antigani and Oziona Mwabuko were both named first-team all-stars. Stephanie West was named second-team all-star.

South Kamloops came in second place in B.C., while R.A. McMath took third place in the provincial standings.

Many of the junior players will join the elder Langford's club next season.

The senior Rapids recently secured a berth in the B.C. Provincial Championships, but injuries slowed the team down in the final two games of the Fraser Valley tournament, which they lost.

The senior provincials are expected to get underway this week at the Langley Events Centre.
