A pair of Burnaby siblings are on top of the British Columbia juvenile golfing world.
Alex and Sumie Francois captured the B.C. Juvenile Boys and Girls titles over the weekend at Crown Isle Resort and Golfing Community in Courtenay, B.C.
Alex Francois, 15, finished at eight under par (70-69-69-208), seven shots up on defending champion Henry Lee of Coquitlam. The 15-year-old Lee posted a tournament-best second round of 68 but couldn't keep up the momentum on the final round to finish at one under (73-68-74-215), tied for second with Diego San Pedro of Richmond. Noah Guise of Port Moody finished in 24th spot at 12 over par, shooting a 76-76-76-228. A.J. Ewart of Coquitlam shot a 75-75-79-229 to finish in 26th at 13 over.
Sumie Francois carded a four over par (69-79-72-220) to take the girls' title. Avril Li of Port Moody was 22 over to capture ninth spot (79-80-79-238), while Coquitlam's Euna Han shot a 34 over (80-88-82-250) to finish in 11th.
Coquitlam's A.J. Ewart held a one-shot lead going into the final round of the B.C. Bantam Boys Championship. Ewart shot a two-under 68 in Monday's opening round at the Qualicum Beach Memorial Golf Club.
Mary Ann Hayward of Aurora, Ont. captured the 2013 Royale Cup Canadian Women's Senior Championship title last week at Spallumcheen Golf and Country Club in Vernon, B.C. Hayward shot a 75-67-71-213 to finish at even par. Val Westell of Coquitlam finished in 48th spot, carding an 81-81-88-250.
