The Coquitlam Metro-Ford Edge came back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat their Tri-City rivals the Port Coquitlam inferno in under-18 girls soccer action on the weekend at Gates Park.
The Edge fell behind early when a PoCo forward found an open backside attacker that left Coquitlam net minder Angela Webster with no chance to make the save. After the goal, the visitors began to pick up the pace, but took the deficit into the first intermission.
In the second, however, the Edge came out strong. The team drew even at the 57th minute when Cassidy Cooper's shot was deflected to teammates Cassie Weimer, who buried the ball from 18 yards out.
Coquitlam continued to press and were eventually rewarded when Yuna Chang's free kick found Cooper in the box, who coolly drilled the ball low to make it 2-1.
Strong defending by Justyna Pomalecki, Elaine Rosetti, Sam Feng and TaylerKaartinenhelped seal the win and keepthe Edge in second place.
TRI-CITIES GEARS UP FOR SPORTS DAY
Athletes in the Tri-Cities will get an opportunity to try out several different recreational activities during Sports Day in Canada on Saturday, Nov. 29.
Yoga, Bollywood dance, badminton and curling are just some of the sports that will be demonstrated as a way of opening up people to new pass times and athletic opportunities.
Curl BC, Tennis BC, British Columbia Golf, BC Athletics, Karate BC, Canoe-Kayak BC, Special Olympics and others have all banded together to offer people the chance to try a variety of sports at the same location.
The Tri-Cities will also be participating in Jersey Day on Friday, Nov. 28, a national day to show your love and support sport by wearing a jersey of your favourite team, club or school.
