The Port Moody Lordco Gunners kept their unbeaten streak alive with a 3-0 win over the Westcoast FC in under-21 soccer last weekend.
Junhyung Lee opened the scoring 18 minutes into the match, heading home a corner kick. Two minutes later Souta Nakayama headed a cross to make it 2-0 in a dominating first half.
The game evened out in the second with both teams having opportunities to score. Julian Katz closed out the match with a marker in the 91st minute.
FINDING AN EDGE
With second place in their division on the line, the Coquitlam Metro Ford Edge defeated the West Coast Impact 1-0 last week in under-18 girls soccer.
Attackers Taylor Booth and Beth Saul sent multiple shots off the metal in the first half, as the Impact were lucky to keep the Edge from taking a lead.
However, as the game wore on, the Coquitlam club's midfield began to take control of the play.
Edge midfielder Justyna Pomalecki was hauled down after taking a pass from Annelise Denny, prompting a penalty. Cassie Weimer kept her free-kick streak going as she calmly slotted the ball past the keeper to give her team a 1-0 lead.
That was all the club needed for the victory, as Angela Webster posted her second clean sheet in net for the Edge.
REBEL SOCCER
A goal from Christa Tascona was all the Coqutilam Metro Ford Rebels needed to defeat the Delta Coastal Selects in under-13 Select division girls soccer.
Toscona was on the end when she volleyed the ball past the opposing net minder after taking a pass from teammates Lucia Zecca 10-minutes into the game.
After the marker, both teams hunkered down defensively and scoring chances were hard to come by for the visiting Coquitlam squad.
Jayden Bawden and Ava Mongrain kept the ball moving on the outside and generated a few quality chances, but they could not find the back of the net.
Thankfully, goaltender Milena Wilson had a strong game in net. Despite a second half break away and a dangerous free kick from outside the box, the net minder posted a clean sheet in the game.
With the win, the Rebels improve to 7-1-1. They will take on the Central City Breakers this weekend at Town Centre's Cunnings Field playing for first place in the division.
