New-look Jr. Adanacs jump to 2-0

New ownership, new management and a new head coach have resulted in nothing new, at least so far, for the Coquitlam Jr. Adanacs.

And that's a good thing.

The three-time defending provincial-champion Jr. A's blasted the Delta Islanders 11-4 in their B.C. Junior 'A' lacrosse league regular-season home opener Wednesday at the Poirier Sports Complex, after thumping the Jr. Timbermen by the identical count Saturday in Nanaimo.

What's perhaps most impressive in the pair of lopsided wins is that the Jr. Adanacs floored only 12 and 13 runners in both games, no fewer than 10 players still away playing in either the National Lacrosse League or the U.S. college field lacrosse ranks.

"I'm not filling the team with a bunch of plugs and players who aren't going to be there at the end of the year," said Jr. A's bench boss Neil Dinsdale, who took over this season from Curt Malawsky, who steered Coquitlam to its first and only Minto Cup national championship in 2010. "I don't think that's fair to anybody. The players I have now are going to be there still when the others come back."

That said, the Jr. A's announced before Wednesday's game they have signed three new out-of-province players -- goalie David DiRuscio from Burlington, Ont., and runners Connor Buchanan and Chris Sokalofsky, both with Saskatchewan ties.

Against Delta, Matthew Dinsdale zipped in four goals and added three assists as the high-powered Jr. A's raced to a period leads of 3-1 and 7-1, a mirror image of the dominance the squad showed under Malawsky's tutelage the last two seasons.

"We're not re-inventing the wheel here," Neil Dinsdale said. "I don't feel any pressure [to succeed].

"I always coach game by game.

"Expectations have been set extremely high and that comes from me and the veterans who have been here for three or four years."

Cole Shafer bagged a pair of goals for the Jr. A's, who got singles from Michael Messenger, Matt Symes, Reid Reinholdt, Andy Taylor and Challen Rogers. Vincent Ricci contributed five helpers.

A highly regarded newcomer, stopper DiRuscio blocked 24 shots and had an assist to nab the win.

RAG LINE: The Jr. A's visit the only other 2-0 B.C. Jr. 'A' squad tomorrow (Saturday) when they visit the Jr. Shamrocks in Victoria.
