Brian Morse scored 2:10 into the first overtime period to give the Chilliwack Chiefs a 3-2 win over the Coquitlam Express Saturday at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex.
The Chiefs now lead their best-of-seven opening round playoff series, two games to none.
After a scoreless first period, Mateo Dixon put the home team ahead after 6:56 had been played in the second period. But the advantage lasted less than three minutes, before Mateo Mrsic got the visitors back on even terms.
Tim Delay gave Chilliwack a 2-1 lead late in the frame when he scored on a power play as Coquitlam’s Drew Garzone sat out a high sticking minor penalty.
Determined to gain at least a split from its first two home games of the series, the Express controlled play in the third period. But it wasn’t until 15:46 that Tyler Kopff was able to chop a blooper past Chiefs goalie Austin McNicholas to send the game to overtime.
The series now shifts to the Chilliwack Coliseum, where games three and four will be played Tuesday (April 4) and Wednesday (April 5).
If the Express is able to win at least one of those, game five will be played Friday, 7 p.m., at Poirier.
