Photos: Coquitlam Express home opener derailed by Prince George Spruce Kings

More than 800 fans attended the season's first game for the Coquitlam Express

John Herrington scored a pair of goals and Linden Makow added an insurance marker into an empty net as the Prince George Spruce Kings defeated the Coquitlam Express 3-0 Friday at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex.

The game was the first of the BC Hockey League season for both teams.

After a scoreless first period, Herrington lit the lamp 4:53 into the middle frame, ripping a shot from the blue line past the short side of Express goalie Adam Manji.

Herrington scored after 2:37 had been played in the third period.

Makow then sealed the result with just under two minutes to play after the Express had pulled Manji for an extra attacker.

Coquitlam will have the coming week to regroup before facing the Merritt Centennials next Friday (Sept. 30) at Poirier.
