PHOTOS: Coquitlam Express lose first pre-season game

The Coquitlam Express lost its first BC Hockey League exhibition game Wednesday, 3-1 to the Langley Rivermen.

The Langley Rivermen scored twice in the second period and added an insurance goal in the third to defeat the Coquitlam Express 3-1 in their BC Hockey League pre-season game, Wednesday at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex.

It was Coquitlam’s first loss in five exhibition games.

Matthew Campbell scored his fourth goal for the Express late in the first period on a scramble in front of Rivermen goalie Jameson Kaine.

Langley tied the game 6:02 into the second period then Ashton Taylor put the visitors in front with four minutes left before the intermission.

Keeton Oakley rounded out the scoring in the third period.

Adam Manji stopped 32 of the 35 shots he faced in the Express net, while Kaine made 31 saves for the Rivermen.

Coquitlam has one more pre-season game to play, Friday in Chilliwack against the Chiefs. The team plays its first regular season game a week later against the Surrey Eagles at South Surrey Arena.

The first home game for the Express is Oct. 15. A vaccine passport is required for admission for fans 12 years of age and older. They must also wear masks at all times.
