Pinetree is the perfect place and the world awaits the outcome of the Canadian Taekwon-Do Federation International 2012 Western Championships there Saturday.

Black belts from across the four western Canadian provinces will compete at Coquitlam's Pinetree Community Centre to try to qualify for a position on Team Canada heading to the International Taekwon-Do Federation World Championships in Benidorm, Spain in October 2013.

Categories of competition at the Canadian Taekwon-Do Federation International 2012 Western Championships will include individual free sparring and patterns as well as two tantalizing team events - team patterns and pre-arranged sparring.

"After working on this event for the past eight months, we are now well down the track putting everything in place for our competitors to have a memorable experience," said tournament host and organizer Kevin Reinelt of Port Coquitlam's Triumph Taekwon-Do. "Pinetree Community Centre is an excellent facility that will enhance that experience."

Reinelt acknowledged sponsorship from government agencies, including the city of Coquitlam, and several local small businesses for helping making the event first rate.

"This will make a big difference in keeping the cost to our competitors reasonable while enabling us to provide a very high quality event," he said.

The competition is open to all coloured belts, including black belts, ages 4 and up.Participants will compete in divisions with their own age, gender, belt level and size in free sparring.

With more than 300 competitors registered, Reinhelt said it be "a very well attended and exciting event."
