Port Coquitlam residents can hit the ice this weekend to help celebrate Sports Day in Canada.
A host of on-ice activities will fill the Port Coquitlam Recreation Complex Nov. 30, a day proclaimed as Skating Day in the community.
Current and former members of the Port Coquitlam Skating Club are invited to take part in a fun skate from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in the Green Arena at the complex at 2150 Wilson Ave. RSVP to [email protected]. The club's junior academy and intermediate level skaters will display their skills from 10:30-11:30 a.m. while the senior level skaters will showcase their talents from 12:30-1:30 p.m.
Those thinking of registering in ice-time activities are encouraged to learn more and try it out. Representatives from PoCo Minor Hockey, Tri-Cities Female Hockey and the city's Learn to Skate Program will be on hand from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the event open to children and families of all ages. Full equipment is not mandatory but those wishing to participate are asked to bring skates, gloves, stick and a CSA-approved helmet. Limited free skate and helmet rentals available. There will be a public skate from 3:15-4:45 p.m. free to those wearing a sports jersey.
Saturday's celebrations are a joint effort of the city of Port Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam Skating Club, PoCo Minor Hockey Association and the Tri-Cities Female Ice Hockey Association.
