PoCo Lightning did so much right it was hard to accept being on the wrong end of a 6-5 decision to their club rivals, the Pirates, in the recent Mosquito division baseball playoff championship game.

It was a tremendous pitchers' battle, with the Pirates' Nicolas Yu, Lyle Taylor and Scott Helmold combining for 16 strikeouts compared with the Lightning's Brendan Mason, Hunter Sheppard and Minjun Ceo fanning 15 together.

Catcher Evan Callow and fielder Daniel Shypilov were standouts for the Lightning, who beat the Heat 12-9 in the semifinal with a Kiefer Hogan fifth-inning run key to the victory.

Previously, the Lightning finished with a 7-3 record to claim the league championship.
