PoCo Saints slip 7-3 to Jr. Salmonbellies

The goal-starved PoCo Saints tallied twice as much in the first 20 minutes as they did in the final 40 and it was hardly enough, as they fell 7-3 Tuesday to the New Westminster Jr. Salmonbellies at Queen's Park Arena.

The goal-starved PoCo Saints tallied twice as much in the first 20 minutes as they did in the final 40 and it was hardly enough, as they fell 7-3 Tuesday to the New Westminster Jr. Salmonbellies at Queen's Park Arena.

The Saints, who dropped a 10-4 count to the visiting Victoria Jr. Shamrocks on Sunday, slid to 10-10-0 in the eight-team B.C. Junior A lacrosse league, while 13-5-0 New West pulled to within two points of the first-place Coquitlam Jr. Adanacs, who sit at 14-4-0. Only three points shy of first are the third place Delta Islanders at 12-5-1.

Tyler Klarner and Tyler Pace helped stake the Saints to a 2-1 lead at the first intermission, and Connor Goodwin's goal 2:37 into the second gave PoCo a 3-1 lead.

However, it was all Jr. 'Bellies after that, as they zipped in the game's final six goals and ended up out-shooting the Saints 60-33, including 24-6 in the second period.

Carson Michaud blocked 48 shots in the Saints' cage, with back-up Garrett Span adding another five stops.

The game was a tame affair, with just 10 total penalty minutes handed out.
