Riverside Rapids from Port Coquitlam came up 11 points short Friday night in their bid to again challenge for theHigh School AAA Girls' Basketball Championship.
Rapids fell 62-51 to the South Kamloops Titans in one of the evening's two semi-finals at Capilano University in North Vancouver. (In the earlier semi, York House downed Brookswood 72-63.)
South Kam leaped out to a quick seven-point lead against the perennial provincial contenders from PoCo but the Tri-City girls had tied the game by halftime, pulling even with a three-pointer at the end of the second quarter.
Laiken Cerenzie andNatalie Carkner were top point-getters for the Rapids, with 13 and 10 points respectively.
But the Titans ruled on turnovers, enjoying a 34-15 edge.
Riverside now plays Brookswood for third place in a 2 p.m. game Saturday at Cap. U. while South Kam and York House face off at 4 p.m.
The two other Tri-City Teams in the provincial tourney also play Saturday, both at 10:15 a.m.: Coquitlam's Gleneagle vs. Handsworth in the fifth/seventh place game; and PoCo's Terry Fox vs. Kelowna in the the 11th/12th place game.
