The Port Coquitlam Saints came close to notching their second win of the season but came up short in a pair of games over the weekend.

The club, which currently sits in the B.C. Jr. 'A' Lacrosse League basement, hosted the Langley Jr. Thunder last Friday, falling 10-9 in a tightly played affair.

Langley jumped out to a lead with a pair of goals from Duston Doudelet in the first period, while Connor Goodwin notched two markers of his own in the opening frame.

Goodwin finished the game with a hat trick but it was not enough to defeat the Thunder, who are one above the Saints in the standings.

PoCo came close again on Sunday again at home, tying the visiting Nanaimo Jr. Timbermen 10-10.

The Saints took a 3-2 lead after the first period and continued to fill Nanaimo's net in the middle frame, with goals from Goodwin, Tanner Fisher, Nathan Marken and Tre Mason.

However, PoCo's offence dried up in the third and Nanaimo was able to mount a comeback to tie the game.

The Timbermen's Dane Sorensen scored a power play goal early in the first overtime period, however the Saints' Goodwin setup Alex Philcox a few minutes later to tie the game at 10-10 when the final buzzer sounded.

Port Coquitlam's next game is against Delta at the PoCo Rec Centre on Friday. The opening face-off takes place at 8 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Coquitlam Jr. Adanacs did not play on the weekend. They are expected to take on Langley at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex today (Wednesday) at 7:30 p.m.
