The Port Coquitlam Trailblazers junior hockey team is honouring the city’s minor hockey roots with its colours and its future aspirations with its logo.

The Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL) unveiled the team's look in a social media post Thursday (Feb. 23).

In a video, the team said its purple, gold and while colour scheme honours the origins of the PoCo Minor Hockey Association that was founded in 1974 and immediately adopted the look of the Los Angeles Kings that wore those colours in its formative NHL seasons.

Just like its big-league muse, the Trailblazers road jersey will be predominantly purple with gold and white trim, while at home it will be mostly white with purple and gold trim.

The team’s logo, that features the Pitt River Bridge against a background of the snowcapped Golden Ears mountain, embodies "the untamed path we set forth upon" and the bridge the Trailblazers hope to build between the organization and the community.

The Trailblazers officially became the PJHL’s 14th franchise earlier in February, picking up the mantle of the old Port Coquitlam Buckeroos that departed for Port Moody in 2006.

The team is owned by Vancouver lawyer and local minor hockey coach, Rob Toor.

It will play its home games at the 800-seat Jon Baillie Arena in the city’s new community centre.

The Trailblazers debut in September.
