Port Coquitlam's Buonassisi named Canada West third star of the week

Port Coquitlam hockey player Nick Buonassisi was named Canada West Universities Athletic Association third star of the week for his three-goal performance with the UBC Thunderbirds last weekend.

The second-year forward opened the scoring Friday night when the T-birds took down Mount Royal University Cougars 5-3 in what was MRU's first loss of the season.

He continued the heroics Saturday afternoon, scoring both of UBC's goals in a 3-2 overtime loss against the Cougars.

With his team down 2-0 in the second period, Buonassisi scored a shorthanded marker at 14:20 of the middle frame to get the T-Birds back into the game. He found the net again at 2:01 of the third to tie the score at two each.

That goal allowed UBC to take the game into overtime and earn its third point of the weekend.

The Thunderbirds are 2-2-2 and will take on the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns this weekend at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre.
