The Terry Fox Ravens rugby team turned in a Jekyll and Hyde performance last week, with a record breaking win in one match followed up with an embarrassing effort in another.

Fox bested Abbotsford's W.J. Mouat secondary 100-5 last Thursday, breaking a record set last season when they defeated Chilliwack by 65 points. However, a few days later, the team's ability to score was gone against Surrey's Semiahmoo Totems, and the team fell 41-7.

"Our boys were over-confident after their massive win versus Mouat," said coach Jorge Knizek. "[They] were not mentally prepared for the tougher test."

Mike West managed four tries in the victory over Mouat on the way to an 18-score performance. Scott Barker was also instrumental in the match, Knizek said, pointing to the man of the match honours he received for the three tries he scored in the game. The Grade 11 athlete also managed to kick five conversions in the contest for a combined 25-point effort, also a Terry Fox record.

But the team could not sustain the momentum going into the second game of the week against the Totems.

Semiahmoo managed to put up 24 points before the Ravens could even get on the board and managed their only try of the game three minutes into the second half, with Adrial Smith running in the ball.

The scoring play served to be the only high point of the game for the Ravens.

The squad followed up with a number of errors that allowed the Surrey club to widen its lead over the visiting Port Coquitlam club.

Terry Fox will now look to improve its 1-1 record when they take on Port Moody on Thursday at the Fox oval.
