Tri-City teams vying for a berth for the AAAA high school basketball provincial championship were at it this week as the Fraser Valley playoffs got underway.
The Terry Fox Ravens, currently ranked No. 1 in the province, kicked off the north division championship with a 74-61 win over Pitt Meadows secondary Friday night. Fox followed up with another victory Saturday night, taking down the Heritage Woods Kodiaks 78-51 in a tensely played Tri-City rivalry match. With the win, the Ravens are now 5-0 in their last handful of games. But the Kodiaks didn't have a bad weekend, despite the loss to their Port Coquitlam rivals.
The club kicked off the tournament on Friday night with a decisive victory over the Centennial Centaurs, defeating the Coquitlam school 97-37. Centennial struggled in its second game of the playoffs, falling to Pitt Meadows 68-57 on Saturday night. The Cents did manage a win in the first week of the post-season, defeating Port Moody secondary 66-56 last Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Pinetree secondary also struggled to secure a win in the first week of the playoffs falling 87-63 against Pitt Meadows in the opening game.
More Fraser Valley post-season action is expected to take place this week and several Tri-Cty teams that are still standing in the tournament will play games today (Wednesday).
Heritage Woods will take on Enver Creek secondary, while the Centennial Centaurs will play Mennonite Educational Institute in Walnut Grove.
Port Moody is expected to square off against Panorama Ridge secondary.
Because the Terry Fox Ravens are undefeated, the squad has punched its ticket to the final eight, and are schedule to play on Friday against a yet-to-be decided team.
