When the Port Moody Black Panthers play their Pacific International Junior Hockey League home opener this weekend, one person will be missing from the team's management group.

Long-time general manager Ron Luniw told The Tri-City News this week that he will be stepping down this season, citing health concerns.

"Unfortunately, it is something that had to be done," he said. "I will never quit being a fan. I love the league and the people involved."

Luniw endorsed the decision to make Jamie Jackson coach and general manager of the junior 'B' hockey club, adding that the team is in good hands with him at the helm.

"I could have moved it to other people," he said. "I wanted to make sure the right people were taking this over."

The Black Panthers will play the Abbotsford Pilots at the Port Moody Arena on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 7:45 p.m. For more information about the team and its upcoming games, go to www.portmoodyblackpanthers.com.
