Port Moody man who sued BC School Sports after the organization ruled his son ineligible to play basketball at Terry Fox secondary this year has withdrawn his lawsuit.
Andras Szigeti said it was not necessary to move forward with the court challenge after Thursday night's loss to the Heritage Woods Kodiaks, which essentially ended the Terry Fox Raven's AAAA season.
"We are going to take a timeout," he said. "Whatever we were doing, it doesn't make sense to go forward with it."
He said he was unlucky and still believes his son, Grade 12 student Abel Szigeti, should have been allowed to play.
Abel asked to be transferred from Heritage Woods to Terry Fox last summer and played the exhibition season with the Ravens.
However, BC School Sports ruled him ineligible for the regular season, pointing to bylaws that state a player must sit out one year before joining a team in a sport they played at their previous school.
Christine Bradstock, the executive director of BC School Sports, told The Tri-City News last week that the rules are in place to prevent athletes who transfer from bumping players who have been with the school for a longer period of time.
