Port Moody's Chris Evans is taking his basketball talents across the pond.
The former Simon Fraser University Clan player inked his first professional basketball contract, signing up with the University of Edinburgh of the Scottish National Basketball League.
"Playing pro has definitely been a dream for me as it is for many basketball players since they were young," Evans said. "When you play basketball your entire life it becomes a part of you and it can open up many opportunities and I am grateful it has for me."
Evans, who started his basketball career at Gleneagle secondary, graduated from SFU last spring, where he played four seasons with the Clan. He was a three-time letter winner with SFU and was known for his quick movement and left-handed jumper.
Evans will also be completing a master's degree program in sport policy, management and international development while overseas and he said he is excited for what lies ahead.
"My inspiration to continue playing basketball after SFU was the fact that it opened up the door for me to pursue my master's degree at the University of Edinburgh, which is a top 20 school in the world, all while playing the sport that I love most," he said.
The University of Edinburgh plays in Division I of the Scottish Men's National League which is also part of the second tier of British basketball.
They currently sit in sixth place in the Division I standings.
"Chris is the ultimate team player and it does not surprise me at all that he has signed a pro contract in Scotland," said the program's head coach James Blake. "He can play multiple guard spots and does not take no for an answer. He is a relentless competitor that can attack the rim and score the ball in bunches."
