The Heritage Woods Kodiaks senior girls volleyball team took home a championship banner at the Handsworth Royals Invitational Tournament in North Vancouver last weekend.
The team dominated the Friday pool, advancing to Saturday's elimination game, where they defeated the AAA top ranked Seaquam secondary in two straight sets.
In the second game of the day, the Kodiaks defeated Tri-City rivals the Riverside Rapids 25-15 and 25-13 to earn their way into the finals.
The championship game against Earl Marriott secondary was a nail biter for the Port Moody club, who won the first set 25-14 but dropped the next 25-22 despite taking an early lead.
But the Kodiaks were able to overcome the setback in a tie-breaker, where they defeated their opponents 15-9 to win first place in the tournament.
The Handsworth tournament was not the first time the Kodiaks have had success since the season began.
Heritage Woods finished on top at the UBC-Mizuno Classic and the Trinity Western University Invitational in the last few weeks. In league play the club is undefeated with a 7-0 record and have their sights set on a provincial championship banner.
