The Riverside Rapids’ dynamic duo of Jessica Parker and Sammy Shields combined for 68 points but it still wasn’t enough to keep their team’s quest for a BC high school senior girls AAA basketball championship alive.
The Rapids lost to the Brookswood Bobcats, 90-86, in their quarter-final game Thursday at the Langley Events Centre.
Brookswood held leads of 24-17 after the first quarter and 42-28 at halftime as the Rapids struggled with their shooting. They hit only 8 of their 41 field goal shots and four of 20 attempted shots from beyond the three-point arc.
Riverside got some of their shooting mojo back in the second half and outscored their opponents, but not by enough.
Brookswood was led by Jenna Dick, who scored 28 points, and she was capably supported by three other teammates who hit double-figures.
Riverside, seeded third heading into the tournament, now falls to the consolation side of the draw. They’ll play Robert Bateman Friday at 5:15 p.m. for a chance to stay alive for fifth place on Saturday. If they lose, the best they can do is seventh.
