Terry Fox Ravens turned things around -- fast.

After finally putting a stop to the Hyacks' early offensive rush, the Ravens ran 11 straight running plays on their next possession, culminating with a two-yard Marko Bevanda scoring plunge.

It was all Fox after that on way to a 33-6 romp in a B.C. AAA senior high school exhibition football game at Terry Fox Oval.

In another game Friday, the Centennial Centaurs continue to tread tough American waters, falling 34-0 to the Eastside Catholic Crusaders in Sammamish, Wash.

"We took a positive step forward this week," said Fox co-head coach Tom Kudaba. "The coaches are starting to make decisions about who are go-to guys are going to be. I'm happy with how the defence played for the majority of the game. I'm also happy with the team spirit that is starting to build."

After the Hyacks first-series threat, the Ravens' defence buckled down, forcing New West into three straight three-and-outs to put the ball back in the hands of their offence.

Mark Casuga capped the Ravens' second drive with an eight-yard dash to paydirt, while Jake Nylund rambled in from three yards out to help Fox build a commanding 20-0 halftime lead.

Nylund blasted into the end zone again from four yards out early in the third quarter to put the contest out of reach.

"We made less mental mistakes," said defensive back/kick returner Jack Brady on the difference in the game. "We played hard until every whistle [and] we missed very few tackles. Our 'O' line opened up holes while our 'D' line made a big push and pressured their QB's."

With the count 26-0, the Hyacks finally crossed the Fox goal-line, only to have Brady respond immediately by bolting 82 yards on the ensuing kick-off for another Ravens' major, one that ended up closing out the scoring.

Nylund led all Raven ball carriers with 12 rushes for 95 yards and two touchdowns.

END ZONE: Under new head coach Dave Lehman, Terry Fox juniors made it a grid sweep over New West by beating the host Hyacks 27-6 last Thursday.
