The Coquitlam Reds notched their first win of the B.C. Premier Baseball League season on Tuesday in decisive fashion.

The visitors downed the Whalley Chiefs 10-2, jumping out to a four-run lead in the first inning. Coquitlam followed up with another four-run inning in the fourth before the Surrey squad was even able to get on the board.

Whalley scored in the fourth and fifth, but continued to struggle for the final two innings.

Coquitlam's Austen Butler, Evan Soutar and Zac Comeault each scored two runs in the match, while Cameron Williams, T.J. McCullough, Kevin Heidema and Nicolas Panozzo all touched home plate.

The Reds have a long way to climb if they want to get up into the top tier of the BCPBL. They currently sit in second to last place, up on league basement dwellers the Parksville Royals.
