Coquitlam Reds survived a wild, eight-run second inning to post a 7-4 triumph Thursday over the North Shore Twins in B.C. Premier Baseball League action at Parkgate Park.

The victory, coupled with a 5-4 Reds' victory earlier, gave Coquitlam a doubleheader sweep and inched the squad above .500 with a 21-20 record in sixth spot in the 13-team loop. North Shore slipped to 13-19.

Up 4-0 in the top of the second, the Reds surrendered four runs in the bottom half of the frame but scrambled back with one in the third and two in the fourth to post the victory, the seventh in their last 10 games.

Despite the relatively close result, the Reds out-hit the Twins 11-5 and got solid relief pitching from Curtis Taylor, who allowed only three hits in the final five innings.

Mitchell Jackman, Jeff Heidema and Hayden Jaco smacked two hits apiece for the Reds, with the catcher Jaco also driving in a pair of runs.

In the opener, Jackman had two hits and two RBI as the Reds won a squeaker with a run in the bottom of the seventh.

The Reds jumped out to a 3-0 first-inning lead but the Twins answered back with four in the top of the third. Coquitlam answered with one in the bottom half of the frame to even the count and set the stage for the seventh-inning heroics.

Jordan Zazulak also had two hits for the Reds, who got winning pitching from Heidema.
