Renegades capture West Coast Cup

The CMFSC U12 select girls Renegades struck gold over the Labour Day weekend at the West Coast Cup in Pitt Meadows. Chanelle Prestia was the Renegades leading scorer, notching six goals in the four games.

Chanelle Prestia was the Renegades leading scorer, notching six goals in the four games. The Renegades also got scoring from Christa Tascona, Ava Mongrain, Alex Hinrichs and Claudia Carbone.

The Renegades received solid goalkeeping from Diana Emelanoff, who was helped by the defensive play from Milena Wilson, Keely Lind-Petersen, Jessica Towner and Laura Marshall. Sierra Santorelli and Olivia Gallina were also strong contributors with their aggressive play in various positions on the field.

The tournament was a good tune up for the Renegades who open their regular season on Sunday.

Silver on ice

A half-dozen Tri-City players helped the Surrey Schooners snare silver at the B.C. Senior Games.

Gordon Buckle and Bill McKillican from Coquitlam, Jerry Croteau and Doug Deacon from Port Coquitlam, and Darrell Deck and Vincent Todd from Port Moody played for the Schooners who finished second in the over-60 division at the Games held Aug. 20-24 in Kamloops.

The Schooners racked up a 3-0 record in the round robin, with wins of 6-1, 10-0 and 6-1. In the gold medal game, Bear Mountain scored with about two minutes left in the game to edge the Schooners 4-3.
