The Riverside Rapids opened their quest for a AAA senior girls provincial high school basketball championship with a 10-point run and never looked back.
The third-ranked Rapids swept away 14th-ranked Royal Bay Ravens 108-49 in the tournament’s first game, Wednesday morning at the Langley Events Centre.
The Rapids led by nine points at the end of the first quarter but ballooned that to a 29-point margin by halftime.
Jessica Parker led the onslaught with 31 points while Sammy Shields netted 29. Tessa Burton contributed 19 points, all but four of them from beyond the three-point line.
The Rapids, the only team from the Tri-Cities to qualify for the girls provincial tournament, will play their quarterfinal game against Brookswood, who are seeded sixth, Thursday at 3:15 p.m. at the LEC. The Bobcats defeated Richmond’s R.A. McMath, 70-68, in their opening round game.
