The Douglas College Royals women's soccer team will have a new head coach when the season gets underway this fall.
Chris Laxton has taken over the sideline duties for the club after being named head coach last week and hopes to improve on the team's 2-15-1 record in the 2013 season.
"I am excited to be joining the Douglas College Royals family," Laxton said in a press release. "It is a great opportunity to work with committed and passionate student-athletes in a dynamic and unique academic environment. I am looking forward to building an exciting soccer program that will develop these young women both on and off the pitch."
Laxton's was previously the head coach with the Fusion FC and Vancouver FC and held an assistant coach position with Queen University Canada and UBC.
He also has a strong understanding of the balance between sports and academics. Laxton holds a master's degree in coaching sciences, a bachelor's degree in education and a bachelor's degree in human kinetics from UBC. He is also has a National Soccer Coaches Association of America Premiere certificate and a goal keeping coach diploma.
