Canadian BMX racer Tory Nyhaug of Coquitlam has been forced to withdraw from the upcoming UCI World Championships in Great Britain after he ruptured his spleen in a crash during a Supercross race two weeks ago in Papendal, Netherlands.

Nyhaug was hospitalized as a result of the injury and remains there for continued medical care and observation.

"Tory is a very resilient and determined individual," said Jacques Landry, High Performance director with the Canadian Cycling Association. "He is an athlete that is targeted for [the] 2016 [Olympics] but if there is a chance he can be ready for August 2012 [in London] there is no doubt in my mind... [he] will pull out all the stops to make the summer happen."
