The Jr. A's raced to a 4-1 first-period lead to bury the Delta Islanders 11-6 in Ladner on Saturday, then bolted to an early 8-1 margin and throttled the Nanaimo Timbermen 18-3 Sunday at Poirier Sports Complex.

Against Delta, Robert Church and Reid Reinholdt scored twice and had five assists apiece at battle of the top two B.C. Junior 'A' lacrosse league teams.

The result was never in doubt, as the Jr. A's jumped to a 9-4 margin after two periods to take control.

The Jr. A's now sit 11-3 atop the eight-team loop, while Delta is next at 9-4-1.

Ben McIntosh and Matthew Dinsdale also struck net twice for Coquitlam, who got singles from Michael Messenger, Vincent Ricci and Andy Taylor.

Davide DiRuscio blocked 32 shots in the Jr. A's cage.

Against Nanaimo, Dinsdale collected two goals and five helpers in the Jr. A's whopping 15-goal win.

McIntosh led all Coquitlam goal-getters with three, with two apiece also coming from Ricci, Conner Buchanan, Wesley Berg, Corey Shires and Tyler Garrison. Berg also dished out four assists for the winners, who meet Delta again tonight (Wednesday) at Poirier, 7:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the PoCo Saints also posted a pair of crucial victories on the weekend, including a 14-11 triumph Friday over the Langley Thunder at PoCo Rec Centre.

The Saints have climbed to fourth spot at 8-4, with Langley falling to 7-7.

The game was tied 2-2 after the first period before PoCo out-scored the Thunder 7-2 in the second.

Richard Lachlan rallied the Saints with two goals and four assists, while Cody Craven and Connor Goodwin also netted a pair of markers apiece. Saints' singles went to Garrett Chan, Cody L'Arrivee, Nash Harrison, Tanner Fisher, Brock Whiteley, Colby Beveridge, Andrew Bromley and Matt Delmonico.

On Sunday, Lachlan's three goals sparked the Saints to a solid 10-6 victory over the host Burnaby Jr. Lakers.

PoCo led 3-2 and 6-4 at the intermissions.

Whiteley netted two tallies for the Saints, whose other marksmen were Bromley, Chan, Goodwin, David McSkimming and Cory Takahara.

The Saints host the New Westminster Jr. Salmonbellies tomorrow (Thursday) and Burnaby on Friday in back-to-back home games at PoCo Rec Centre, both 8 p.m. starts.
