The PoCo Saints surrendered the first four goals to the New Westminster Salmonbellies in their BC Junior A Lacrosse League game Tuesday at Queen’s Park Arena in New West.
But it was the last four goals the Saints scored that earned them a 7-6 victory over the host Bellies.
Ryland Rees, Clark Walters, and Dylan Foulds with a pair, scored unanswered in the third period to lead the Saints back from a 6-3 deficit.
The Salmonbellies built that advantage on a first period goal by Tre Leclaire, and three more in the first half of the second period before Connor Frost finally scored for the visitors with 8:15 left in the middle frame.
Will Malcolm restored the home team’s four-goal lead just over three minutes later. But a pair of goals a minute apart by Brodie Gillespie got the Saints back to 5-3.
The Salmonbellies’ Carter Dickson then built the lead up to 6-3 when he scored with less than a minute left to play before the break.
Foulds added a pair of assists to his two goals to lead PoCo’s offence while Cam Overby stopped 25 of the 31 shots he faced in the Saints’ net.
Despite the win, the Saints are still in fourth place in the league standings with 16 points. But they’re now just two points behind second-place New West. Victoria’s 17 points are good enough for third. The Coquitlam Adanacs lead the league with 23 points in 14 games.
The Saints host the Burnaby Lakers on Friday, 8 p.m., at the PoCo Rec Complex.
