Both Tri-City junior A lacrosse clubs were in action at home on Sunday night, with the PoCo Saints having a better showing than the Coquitlam Adanacs.
The Saints took on the Nanaimo Timbermen at the PoCo Rec Centre in an early evening game. PoCo's Matt Delmonico racked up some early points - a goal and two assists - in the opening frame, which ended in a 4-4 draw.
The second period saw a dustup at the 13-minute mark between PoCo's Max Weselowski and Nanaimo's Nick Sanderson. Both players were ejected from the game, each receiving a 10-minute misconduct and an additional seven penalty minutes for roughing and fighting.
PoCo managed to shut down the Timbermen in third period, with Delmonico pounding out three goals in six minutes for a game total of five, sending the Saints to a 14-10 victory.
The Adanacs weren't as lucky in their matchup against the Victoria Shamrocks. Coquitlam did have a one-goal advantage at the end of the first period, before their defense started to unravel. Victoria's Chris Wardle, one of the league's point leaders, added four goals and an assist to his collection in the second frame alone.
The game took an aggressive turn halfway through the third period when Coquitlam's Ryan Ishikawa and his opponent, Victoria's Max Cullen, racked up game misconducts and a slew of other penalties for fighting. After the final buzzer, Victoria claimed the 15-8 victory over the Adanacs.
In other Adanacs' news, the organization announced on Monday that it will be retiring former Adanacs' player Trevor Wingrove's jersey during a home game on June 5. Wingrove, a builder of lacrosse and community in Coquitlam, passed away in 2010 after a battle with cancer.
