For the second time in two weeks the Coquitlam Chargers stumbled out of the blocks and could not overcome the hole they dug for themselves in the early part of the game.
On Sunday, the club allowed the Richmond Raiders to put up two touchdowns before the Coquitlam club could get on the board during a bantam football road game.
However, thanks to a strong defence, Coquitlam was able to put up a wall in the second half, limiting Richmond's ability to move the ball forward.
Both teams struggled with the elements, but only the Chargers managed to score when the weather turned ugly.
"Even when conditions were good we still had some problems [generating offence] against their very strong defence," said Raiders offensive co-ordinator Rob Parmar. "The lateral pursuit of [Coquitlam's] defence was exceptional. They're very well coached."
With the Raiders struggling to gain yards, it was the Charger's turn to find the end zone.
A fourth-quarter fumble was recovered by Coquitlam's Darrel Gelera, who was able to score the touchdown.
But despite the late offensive surge, Coquitlam could not get back into the game. When the final buzzer sounded, Richmond was still winning 12-9.
The Chargers had similar struggles early during a match against the Vancouver Trojans in the opening week of the season.
Vancouver jumped out to a 22-0 lead at the half, before Coquitlam's offence got on the board.
In that match, quarterback Lucas Gill threw for three touchdowns, before Jason Tade recovered a fumble and scored a major later in the game.
But despite the dramatic finish, Coquitlam lost the game 22-19 and are still looking for their first win of the season.
