Slaymaker sets the pace

Cameron Slaymaker of the Coquitlam Cheetahs capped off an impressive season by winning the 10-year-old boys Provincial Cross-Country Championships at Clearbrook Park in Abbotsford last weekend.

Cameron Slaymaker of the Coquitlam Cheetahs capped off an impressive season by winning the 10-year-old boys Provincial Cross-Country Championships at Clearbrook Park in Abbotsford last weekend.

Slaymaker edged rival Matti Erickson from Nelson by less than a quarter of a second to win the 2,000-metre event in a time of 8:01.5.

The win gives Slaymaker first place overall with BC Athletics for the JD Cross Country Series.

Matthew Trent of the Cheetahs finished fourth in the 10-year-old boys event in a time of 8:23.03, giving him third place in the series.

Cheetah Amelia Hamnet's time of 7:21.27 was good enough for seventh place in the event for girls aged 7-9. The result puts her in third place overall for the series.
