Len Damberger's Zone 3 softball team may not have been the quickest team at last week's B.C. Seniors Games, but they had more than enough experience.
Their wisdom on the baseball diamond propelled the squad, which is made up of nine members of Coquitlam's Glen Pine and Dogwood Pavilion, to a silver medal in the men and women 65 years and older division.
"I think we did very well," said Damberger, the manager of the team. "We are all a bit older, but we have played a lot."
The team lost in 9-8 in extra innings in the finals to Zone 4, which is made up of players from Vancouver and North Vancouver.
Damberger and his teammates were not the only athletes to fare well at the Langley event.
The Royals, which featured Brian Powell, Ted Bancroft and Bob Steeves of Coquitlam along with Ted Oliver, Everett Holmes and Gerry Sarich of Port Coquitlam took gold in the age 65 to 69 division men's slow pitch tournament.
They were joined by the mens 70 and older slow pitch team, who also won gold with the help of PoCo athletes Dave Oster and Real Bilodeau and Coquitlam slugger Doug Turner.
The women's teams also had a strong showing in the slow pitch tournament. In the 60 and over division the Zone 3 squad, which featured Coquitlam athletes Vale Savage, Frances Hanson, Bonnie Godfrey and Diane Springer, also won a gold medal.
