The Coquitlam Adanacs wrapped up their Western Lacrosse Association season with a pair of losses. And a few bruised knuckles.
After closing out their home schedule Saturday with a 9-5 loss to the Maple Ridge Burrards, the Adanacs completed their lost weekend by dropping an 8-5 decision to the Nanaimo Timbermen at Frank Crane Arena in Nanaimo on Sunday.
The game was marred by a donnybrook eight seconds into the third period that resulted in game misconducts to two Timbermen and the Adanacs’ Mike Kaminsky and Kevin Neufeld.
Nanaimo opened the scoring with three straight goals before Coady Adamson got the visitors on the board with an unassisted marker 11:11 into the first period.
Kaminski got the Adanacs to within a goal 1:14 later, but 1:14 later Jake Cullen was able to restore Nanaimo’s two-goal advantage.
Jordan Catton got Coquitlam close again eight seconds into the second period but goals by Mason Pynn and Chase Fraser restored the Timbermen’s cushion. They then extended their lead to 7-3 6:48 into the third period on a power play goal by Brody Eastwood.
Consecutive short handed goals by Matthew Delmonico and Adamson gave Coquitlam renewed life but Fraser snuffed that out with his third goal of the game 13 minutes into the period.
Adanacs’ goalie Hunter Wongstedt faced 61 shots and took the loss, that was the Adanacs’ 13th of the season. They finished the season with 10 points, five behind the fifth-place Timbermen and only two ahead of the Langley Thunder, who finished last.
The Burrards sat atop the standings heading into the season’s last night on Tuesday with 24 points, but the Burnaby Lakers could still draw even with a win over the Thunder to close out the WLA’s regular season schedule. New Westminster finished second with 23 points while the Victoria Shamrocks nabbed the final playoff position with 21 points.
