Coquitlam Adanacs got something Saturday they've struggled to attain in their previous seven Western Lacrosse Association outings.
Goals - lots of 'em.
Trailing 8-6 early in the third period, the A's ripped in seven straight markers in the final 16 minutes to shake the Maple Ridge Burrards 13-8 at Poirier Sports Complex.
The win was the A's third straight and boosted them to 4-4-0, while the struggling Burrards stand at 1-7-1 after finally posting their first victory Sunday over the Burnaby Lakers, 9-5.
Rookie Daniel McQuade pumped in a pair of goals during the seven-goal outburst, as did Dane Dobbie.
Other first-year players to strike net for the A's included Travis Cornwall and Ryan Johnson, with a pair apiece, and Leif Mydske.
The top goal total in a game for the A's their first seven contests was seven, which they achieved twice.
'"I think some of our rookies are getting more comfortable on the floor," reasoned A's general manager Randy Delmonico. "We didn't play very well in the first two periods... there were blunders all over the floor. I think after a couple wins we figured we just had to show up."
The teams were knotted 3-3 after the first period, in which the Burrards out-shot the A's 20-9, then took a 7-6 margin into the third. There, ex-PoCo Saint junior Derek Lowe scored to give Ridge an 8-6 lead before the A's came to life and, eventually, took command.
Daryl Veltman and Jason Jones also tallied for Coquitlam, with former Jr. Adanac Brandon Bertoia pacing Ridge with two goals. Veltman, Cornwall, Johnson and Mydske - a first-year cast-off by the Langley Thunder - also dished out three assists each for the victors.
Delmonico also attributed the A's late surge to his players' strong conditioning regimen and solid work ethic early in the season.
"We're practising really hard, a lot of that on fitness," he said. "If you're going to out-work the other team, you better come in pretty good shape to do it."
Next, the A's visit the 4-3-2 Lakers in Burnaby on Friday before returning home Saturday to host 5-3-0 Langley at Poirier, 7 p.m.
