An aching shin didn't stop Tamara O'Brien of Port Coquitlam's TAG Sports Centre from claiming fifth spot in tumbling and sixth in double-mini trampoline at the World Age Group gymnastics championships last week in Birmingham, England.

Ranked first in Canada in tumbling and second in double-mini going in, the 15-year-old O'Brien nailed two perfect landings in preliminaries to finished first heading into the final eight of the event.

A blip in her second pass forced her to settle for sixth in the end.

Next in tumbling, she hit two stable preliminary passes to take seventh, then moved up to fifth with a solid pass in the final round at the worlds, which featured more than 600 athletes from 40 different countries.

"[It was] a solid string of performances and results for Tamara at these world championships," raved her TAG coach Barb Fraser, who was named Team Canada tumbling coach for the global meet.
