TC talent wrestles to BC medals

Michelyn Bell became the first Terry Fox Ravens' wrestler since 2006 to be crowned a B.C. high school wrestling champion when she grabbed gold Saturday at the provincials in Abbotsford.

Michelyn Bell became the first Terry Fox Ravens' wrestler since 2006 to be crowned a B.C. high school wrestling champion when she grabbed gold Saturday at the provincials in Abbotsford.

Bell won the uncontested girls 110 kg class, after having won bronze last year and finishing fourth in 2009.

Meanwhile, Arash Farhadian of the Port Moody Blues captured gold for the second straight year, winning the boys 41 kg division.

Karly Adair of the Pinetree Timberwolves tackled her way to silver in the girls 51 kg category, while Fox's Alana White collected bronze in the girls 90 kg class.

A Judo Silver

Port Coquitlam's Kristi Roots battled her way to the silver medal in the girls 70 kg class in judo Saturday at the Canada Winter Games in Halifax, N.S. Roots was the lone B.C. female to win a judo medal.

"It was a pretty good result for me," Roots said. "It was very thrilling to be part of such a huge competition."
