Team BC draws blanks

The Team BC football program ran into some stiff competition south of the border. Three Tri-Cities players were among the Team BC Grade 6, Grade 7 and Grade 8 teams that headed to Sammamish, Wash.

The Team BC football program ran into some stiff competition south of the border.

Three Tri-Cities players were among the Team BC Grade 6, Grade 7 and Grade 8 teams that headed to Sammamish, Wash. on the weekend to play in a tournament to qualify for the FBU national championship set for the Alamodome in San Antonio, Tex. as part of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Week in early January 2014.

"They were a lot bigger than us and those big boys were fast," said Stacy Kashino, one of the Team BC parents.

The Team BC Grade 7 team qualified for the regional championship with a 20-12 win over Puget Sound on Saturday. Seattle blanked Team BC 68-0 in Sunday's final. Coquitlam's Jaden Severy played running back and linebacker with Team BC while Alex Figner lined up at defensive end.

Coquitlam's Cole Kashino played for the Team BC Grade 6 team that advanced to the final with a 38-7 win over Eastern Washington/Northern Idaho. Oregon handled the Team BC 52-0 in Sunday's regional championship.

The Grade 8 team opened with a 47-13 loss to Eastern Washington/Northern Idaho before falling to Oregon 39-20 in the consolation game.
