Terrace defeats Williams Lake at Powell River Recreation Complex

River Kings leapfrog Stampeders in Coy Cup standings; host club and Penticton still to play on day two

Terrace River Kings remained undefeated at Coy Cup 2024 in Powell River with a 2-0 win over Williams Lake Stampeders in the late afternoon on Wednesday, March 27.

Colin Bell and Brandon Onstein scored nine seconds apart late in the second period to secure the win. Trevor Eseling and Austin Turner combined to set up Bell’s marker, while Connor Onstein picked up the lone assist on Turner’s goal. Daniel Paul earned the shutout in goal. 

The victory moved Terrace past Williams Lake into first place in the four-team tournament. River Kings have three points after tying the host Powell River Regals on March 26. Stampeders collected two points in a win over Penticton Silver Bullets yesterday.

Regals (one point) and Silver Bullets (zero points) are about to take the ice (7:30 pm tonight) for their second round-robin games.

The round-robin portion of the tournament concludes tomorrow (Thursday, March 28) with Terrace taking on Penticton (3:30 pm) and Williams Lake facing Powell River (7:30 pm). The top team after the round-robin advances to Saturday’s championship game (7:30 pm). Second and third place teams meet in the semi-final on Friday, March 29, also at 7:30 pm.
