Tri-City javelin thrower Teagan Rasche will be heading to Alberta later this month to take part in the Pan American Junior Track and Field Championships.
The Port Coquitlam athlete qualified last weekend at the Canadian Track and Field Championship, also held in Edmonton, finishing second with a throw of 47.46 m, a personal best.
The throw was more than enough to meet the Pan Am Junior Championship qualifications standard of 46 m.
The winner, an Ontarian, threw 47.9 m, while the bronze medalist, also from Central Canada, finished with 47.12 m.
The win caps a big year for Rasche, a Coquitlam Cheetah track and field team alum who recently graduated from Riverside secondary. Next year, she will take her javelin-throwing skills to the NCAA with Virginia Tech, where she recently received a scholarship.
The championships in Edmonton will not be Rasche’s first time facing off against international competition.
Back in 2013, she travelled to Donetsk, Ukraine, where she took part in the World Youth Championship.
Brittni Wolczyk, another Tri-City athlete, also competed in Edmonton.
The javelin thrower, who recently completed Grade 12 at Archbishop Carney and is headed to the University of Nebraska on a scholarship next year, finished fourth with a 45.13 m throw.
The Pan Am Junior Track and Field Championships will take place in Edmonton between July 31 and August 2.
