Tri-City athletes land on podium at high school track championship

Coquitlam's Percy Perry Stadium played host to the 2014 Fraser Valley High School Track and Field championship last week and the Tri-Cities were well represented on the podium.

Coquitlam's Percy Perry Stadium played host to the 2014 Fraser Valley High School Track and Field championship last week and the Tri-Cities were well represented on the podium.

A number of local athletes landed top-three finishes in their respective track and field events at the meet, held May 12 to 15. Here are the top local results for the senior (14 to 18 years) categories:

400 m dash (girls): third place, Sarah Thompson, Dr. Charles Best secondary, in one minute, 1.67 seconds;

800 m run (girls): first, Addy Townsend, Best, 2:13.52; Townsend also won the 3,000 m in 10:10.17;

1,500 m steeplechase (girls): third, Olivia Willett, Riverside secondary, 5:27.26;

hammer throw (girls): second place, Teagan Rasche, Riverside, 50.18 m (Rasche also placed second in javelin with a throw of 42.82 m); third, Chanell Botsis, Best, 50.04 m;

800 m run (boys): first, Nathan Wadhwani, Terry Fox secondary, 1:55.82; he also placed third in the 1,500 m with a time of 4:05.69 and first in the 3,000 m with a time of 8:39.71; in the latter event, fellow Raven Isaac Wadhwani placed third, posting a time of 9:04.41.
