Tri-City athletes make Games haul

Tri-City athletes brought home a host of medals from the Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Que. Coquitlam's Daniel Caverly won gold in beach volleyball, while Emily Gerson took gold in rowing.

Tri-City athletes brought home a host of medals from the Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Que.

Coquitlam's Daniel Caverly won gold in beach volleyball, while Emily Gerson took gold in rowing. Robyn Cando of Port Coquitlam won both a gold and bronze in fencing.

Coquitlam Reds right-hander Jonathan Keltie helped Team BC to gold on the diamond, while Courtney Bridge of Port Coquitlam was part of the golden women's softball team. Alessandra Gentile of Port Moody and Coquitlam's Vanessa Cornwall earned silver with Team BC in women's volleyball.

Kyle Jones of Port Moody, Mario Gerges, Luigi Polisi and Michael North of Coquitlam and Alejandro Varela and David Merton of Port Coquitlam were part of the men's soccer team that won a silver medal.

Benjamin Ayesu-Attah of Coquitlam claimed silver in the 400 metres and was part of the 4x400 metre relay team that raced to a silver. Port Moody's David McKay picked up a silver with Team BC's wrestling team. Coquitlam's Madeline Wainman earned bronze in diving, while Ryan Sclater of Port Coquitlam won bronze with the Team BC men's volleyball squad.

Overall, Team BC walked away with 47 gold, 36 silver and 39 bronze for a total of 122 medals at the Games.
