Tri-City Hyack swimmers clean up at short course event

Competitive Tri-City swimmers from the Hyack Swim Club helped their teammates glide into second place at the Provincial Short Course Championships from Feb. 28 to March 3 in Victoria.

Competitive Tri-City swimmers from the Hyack Swim Club helped their teammates glide into second place at the Provincial Short Course Championships from Feb. 28 to March 3 in Victoria.

The New Westminster-based club were the defending champions going into the event and led the overall team point score for two days.

"With 30 swimmers in the meet, we simply ran out of one or two swimmers, [versus] the other team who had 55 swimmers in the meet," said Hyack head coach Mark Bottrill in a press release. "Still, it was a tremendous team effort and our group really stood tall and handled themselves very well."

Tri-City swimmers recorded the following results:

Podium standout Chris Baker, 14, won gold in the 100-m butterfly, silver in the 200-m butterfly, bronze in the 200-m individual medley, silver in 200-m medley relay and bronze in the 200- and 400-metre freestyle relays.

Jeremy Au, 14, won silver in the 200-metre medley and bronze in the 200- and 400-m freestyle races.

Mia Bottrill, 15, took gold in the 200-m butterfly.

Victor Krawus, 14, and teammate Chun Sing Leung,14, saw silver in the 200-m medley relay and bronze in the 200- and 400-metre freestyle relays.

Hattie Sun, 12, won silver in the 100-m butterfly and backstroke events and bronze in the 200-m individual medley and 200-m freestyle relay.

Sara Whelan, 15, won gold in the 200-m freestyle and silver in the 100-m breaststroke. Jasmine Whelan, 14, saw silver in the 100- and 200-m breaststroke.
