Tri-City players grab gold in national female lacrosse finals

Fittingly, they did it on the B.C. Day long weekend. Team BC, featuring a large contingent of girls from the Tri-Cities, captured gold in both the Midget and Bantam divisions at the Canadian national female box lacrosse championships July 28 to Aug.

Team BC, featuring a large contingent of girls from the Tri-Cities, captured gold in both the Midget and Bantam divisions at the Canadian national female box lacrosse championships July 28 to Aug. 2 in Victoria.

It marked the first time a B.C. team has captured a female box lacrosse crown.

Both finals featured Team BC battling Ontario, with the westerners prevailing 4-2 in the Midget title tilt and 4-3 in the Bantam championship.

Players from PoCo on the winning Midget unit were Carlie Robinson, Laticia Kuppan, Billy McLaughlin, Kalely McMurtry and Nikita Berg, while Coquitlam players included Harlowe Steele and Samantha Thomson. The squad was coached by former WLA Coquitlam Adanacs' player Pat Coyle.

In Bantam, PoCo players were Brianna Stroup, Elexa Pakozdy, Adele Berg, Alex Antignani, with Coquitlam represented by Mieke Stobbart and Bianca Santucci. The squad was coached by another ex-Adanac playing great, Dan Stroup.
