The Tri-Cities will have a prominent role on the U18 Team BC that will take on some of the top high school football players at the FBU International Showcase.
Terry Fox Ravens coach Tom Kudaba will lead the B.C. team that includes six Ravens and one Centennial Centaur at the showcase that runs as part of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Week in San Antonio, Tex. Dec. 30 to Jan. 4.
"The U.S. team has now divided itself into two Texas teams [East and West] and we all know the reputation of Texas football," said Kudaba, who is in his fourth year on the sidelines with Team BC.
Centennial running back J.P. Kalambay will join Terry Fox defensive backs Kyle Miller and Jason Shamatutu, defensive linemen Kyle Sagmoen and Mike West, offensive lineman Michael Beck and receiver Adrial Sellers.
"The six local players from Terry Fox will all play important roles on this year's team and I hope they can build on the success that the team had during the regular season," said Kudaba. "The experience and exposure these kids get from events like this is immeasurable and will help their personal development as well as raise the lustre of our provincial football program."
Sagmoen, Sellers and Beck, along with Ballenas Whalers offensive lineman Brock Mould are returning veterans from last year's Team BC that finished as the top team in the FBU International Showcase.
"Experience always counts and we will have some players who we will rely on to duplicate last year's performances," said Kudaba, who's hoping for major contributions from new players like Handsworth Royals quarterback Mike LeMoine and Tweedsmuir Panthers running back Jamel Lyles.
Team BC will open their schedule Jan. 1 against Texas East at Heroes Stadium. Their second and final game goes Jan. 4 against Team Europe in the Alamodome.
