Three Tri-City athletes are representing three different countries at the World Junior Racquetball Championships, which got underway in Cali, Colombia this week.
Brother Connor and Chris Culhane both call Coquitlam home but Connor will play for Team Japan and Chris will play for Team Canada. Josephine Choi, also from Coquitlam, will represent South Korea at the international event.
It was still early in the tournament by the time the Tri-City News went to press Thurdsay, but Chris and his 14 and under doubles teammates Simon Comeau had already seen some success. They pair one their first match and were expected to play a team from Ecuador on Thursday afternoon.
The Grade 10 Gleneagle secondary student also made it out of the round robin in the singles event, but fell to Marco Sarmiento of Honduras in the quarter-finals.
Chris' older brother Connor also made it to the tournament playoffs but fell in the quarterfinals to Andres Avilles of Costa Rica.
The tournament was the fourth time that Connor has been to the world championship, having represented Canada three times before.
Meanwhile, Choi did not make it out of the round-robin portion of the tournament.
Choi is a Burnaby Mountain secondary student who was making her first appearance in the world championships in the 16 and under singles events.
