The Port Moody Thunder will get a chance to try out the brand new Westhill Sports Box on Saturday as the city hosts the facility's grand opening.
The 1,560 sq. metro multi-sport facility can hold ball hockey, lacrosse, basketball, soccer and other sports and has been in the works since December 2013.
At 11 a.m. on Saturday, city officials and local politicians will be on hand to witness the first game played on the sports floor, which thanks to LED lighting and a permanent roof, can hold events in the evening.
The facility cost $1.36 million, with $681,332 in grants coming from the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development.
CYCLE TRACK
Tri-City mountain bikers have a new place to practice their skills after the city of Coquitlam opened up its new Mundy Park Mountain Bike Trails at Chilko Drive and Mariner this week.
The facility, which has been fenced off during the construction process, features novice and intermediate trails. Log stacks and timber piles are located throughout the course, allowing cyclists to test their skills in a controlled setting.
